Network License Server Installation
Required Upgrade to Network Authorization Utilities 7.0
JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion 2020 and higher no longer supports Freedom Scientific Network Authorization Utilities 6.6 and earlier. Version 7.0 is required for these product releases. The 7.0 version offers the following benefits:
- Backwards compatible with earlier versions of JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion.
- Improved support for virtual environments
- Contains the latest bug fixes and performance improvements
- Support for IPv6 available in JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion 2020 and higher
The Network License Server software is a Windows application with a minimal footprint. Given its limited overhead and processing requirements, the Network License Server software does not require a dedicated server; it can be co-resident with other network applications. The 7.0 Network Authorization Utilities support the following versions of Windows:
- 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10
- Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, and 2019
Network Server Installation and Activation
- Download the Network Authorization Utilities 7.0 and install the file on the computer that will run the license server.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of the network authorization tools and license server.
- Once the license server is installed, open the Start menu, navigate to the Freedom Scientific Network Authorization Utilities folder, and then choose Update Network Authorization.
- Follow the prompts to complete the activation process for your software product.
Note: To activate a license on a computer that does not have direct internet access, choose the Manual option and then follow the prompts to retrieve and enter a license code.

Client Computer Installation and Activation
After installing and activating a network license server, you are ready to install and run the application software on your client computers. Other than installing the application on each client computer, you do not need to perform any additional action. Each time the application software is started on a client computer, it will automatically search for the license server and obtain an authorization token.
The number of client computers that can be authorized at any given time depends on the number of users permitted by your license. For example, if you purchased a license for five users, your license server will allow five client computers to authorize. Once all tokens are assigned, no additional clients can receive authorization.
If you need to support additional users, contact your local distributor or Freedom Scientific to purchase additional seats.
Note: For client computers to obtain an authorization from the network license server they must both be on the same subnet. In situations where the client computer is on a different subnet, you must provide the application software the name or IP address of the network license server using the LSHOST or LSFORCEHOST environment variables. See the section "About the Environment Variables" in the Sentinel License Manager System Administrator’s Guide.
Network License Server Upgrade Instructions
During an upgrade, the availability of network licenses may be disrupted.
Before starting the upgrade, we recommend that you backup the file containing your network licenses as described below so you can import them in case they are not imported for any reason during the upgrade.
If you are using a different version of the SentinelLM Server than the version originally distributed with version 6.X of the Network Authorization Utilities, it is also recommended that you uninstall that SentinelLM Server version before starting the upgrade. For more information, see the How can I tell what version is installed section.
For Sentinel 7.2.0.6, navigate to one of the following folders:
- For 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Rainbow Technologies\SentinelLM 7.2.0.6 Server\English
- For 32-bit: C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\SentinelLM 7.2.0.6 Server\English
For Sentinel 8.0 and later, navigate to one of the following folders:
- For 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT
- For 32-bit: C:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT
Once you have opened the correct folder, select the file lservrc and copy it to a location where you can easily find it later.
To install the latest Freedom Scientific Network Authorization Utilities:
- Download the Network Authorization Utilities 7.0 and install the file on the computer that will run the license server.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of the network authorization Utilities and license server.
- Once the license server is installed, open the Start menu, navigate to the Freedom Scientific Network Authorization Utilities folder, choose Update Network Authorization, and then follow the prompts to complete the activation process for your software product.
Note: To activate a license on a computer that does not have direct internet access, choose the Manual option and then follow the prompts to retrieve and enter a license code.

Importing Your Network Licenses
If your network licenses were not imported during the network authorization utilities and license server installation, you can import them using the file that you copied from the license server folder as described above.
- Open the Start menu, navigate to the Freedom Scientific Network Authorization Utilities folder, and then choose Server Administration to open the WlmAdmin utility.
- Navigate to the desired server in the tree view, press the APPLICATIONS key or Right Click to open the context menu, choose "Add Feature," "From a File," and then "To Server and its File."
- When the Open File dialog displays, navigate to where you saved the lservrc file and choose Open.
- The licenses will be imported and a window containing the import summary will be displayed.
Once the network licenses have been imported, you are ready to use the license server.
Network License Server Upgrade Instructions
Incompatible Licenses
Licenses that were activated using Network Authorization Utilities 1.01 are not compatible with 7.0. After upgrading to 7.0, you will need to reactivate all currently installed licenses. Network licenses will not be available until reactivation is completed.
Before starting the upgrade, we recommend that you backup the file containing your network licenses as described below. This will allow you to manually import your licenses if they do not get automatically imported for any reason during the upgrade. Additionally, If you are using a different version of the SentinelLM Server than the version originally distributed with the Network Authorization Utilities, it is recommended that you uninstall that SentinelLM Server version before starting the upgrade. For more information, see the How can I tell what version is installed section.
It is also recommended that you uninstall version 1.X of the Network Authorization Utilities before performing the upgrade. If this step is not done, you will have both versions installed on your machine but only the latest will be used.
For Sentinel 7.2.0.6, navigate to one of the following folders:
- For 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Rainbow Technologies\SentinelLM 7.2.0.6 Server\English
- For 32-bit: C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\SentinelLM 7.2.0.6 Server\English
For Sentinel 8.0 and later, navigate to one of the following folders:
- For 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT
- For 32-bit: C:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT

There are three major versions of the Network Authorization Utilities: version 1, version 6, and version 7. Use the following steps to determine what version you have installed:
- Open the Control Panel and navigate to Programs and Features
- Compare the values in the Name and Version columns:
- If the Name is "Network Authorization Utilities" and there is no Version listed, the version is 1.01.
- If the Name is "Freedom Scientific Network Authorization Utilities" and the major version is 6, the version is 6.x.
- If the Name is "Freedom Scientific Network Authorization Utilities" and the major version is 7, the version is 7.x.
The Network Authorization Utilities install a third-party tool called the SentinelLM Server. You may have installed a different version of the SentinelLM Server to support software from other vendors. The following table provides information about the different versions of SentinelLM supported by the Network Authorization Utilities.

To activate licenses on a server that is not connected to the Internet, you will need your product Authorization Number and a computer that has Internet access.
- On the server, navigate to the Freedom Scientific Network Authorization Utilities folder, choose Update Network Authorization, and choose the Manual option. Note the Locking Code displayed on the next screen.
- On a computer with Internet access, navigate to Retrieve Activation License Code.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to input the Authorization Number and the server's locking code.
- Transfer the license code to the server. Repeat the instructions in Step 1 above to Update Network Authorization. Choose the Manual option and follow onscreen prompts to complete installation of the license code.
